Our editor, Alan Sircom reviewed the SlatFusor in hi-fi+ issue #229 (page 91) where he wrote, “From the perspective of making good sound, ‘most’ rooms need some kind of acoustic treatment. …with the SlatFusor range, GiK Acoustics has made an effective, domestically friendly, one-stop-shop approach.”

He went on to say, “The line-up has four different panels; the 1S and 2S are 25mm and 50mm thick acoustic panels, while the 4S and 6S are 100mm and 150mm bass traps. “The SlatFusor is a deceptively simple design (it’s a diffusor sitting on top of an absorber) and is designed to work close to – or preferably mounted on – a wall. “For example, these tests show a panel like the 2S offers good absorption in the midrange but provides little help in the bass. Meanwhile, the 6S absorbs a lot of energy at 125Hz and below. This makes them ideal for most domestic listening rooms.”

He concluded by saying, “At one extreme, people in home audio will engineer the acoustics before placing a single audio component in that room.

The other extreme won’t consider acoustic treatment until the system is ‘perfect’. Most of us occupy the middle ground. Regardless, the result is all points lead to room treatment sooner or later.
