Buchardt Audio Introduces the E50-S

Denmark, August 2026 – Buchardt Audio is pleased to introduce the E50-S, a new addition to the E Series and a different interpretation of the highly acclaimed E50.

The original E50 was created as our no-compromise statement in passive loudspeaker design, combining solid-wood Danish craftsmanship with some of the finest components available from companies including PURIFI, Scan-Speak, Jantzen Audio and Duelund Coherent Audio.

The new E50-S does not replace the E50, nor is it intended as an upgrade. Instead, it takes the same fundamental E Series philosophy in a different direction.

The “S” stands for Sensitivity.

At the heart of the E50-S is a new custom-developed 7.5-inch Satori woofer, featuring a TeXtreme® Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm and a fully neodymium-based motor system. Combined with the larger cone area, the new driver provides considerably higher sensitivity than the PURIFI woofer used in the original E50 while retaining high excursion capability and impressive output potential.

The result is a loudspeaker that is significantly easier to drive and can be partnered with amplifiers ranging from small 15-watt tube designs to powerful solid-state amplifiers. Buchardt specifies an in-room sensitivity of 91 dB, with a 4-ohm impedance that does not fall below 4 ohms.

Different by design

Rather than trying to make the E50-S simply “better” than the E50, our goal was to give listeners another choice.

Where the original E50 offers exceptionally deep bass and a relaxed, rich and slightly laid-back presentation, the E50-S places greater emphasis on midrange presence, speed, clarity and spatial information.

The E50-S is more energetic and forward in its presentation, bringing voices closer to the listener and creating an extremely precise, holographic soundstage with a strong sense of air around individual instruments.

Bass extension is deliberately lighter than on the original E50. This makes the E50-S particularly well suited to smaller rooms, placement closer to walls, systems where excessive bass energy can become problematic, or listeners who simply prefer greater focus on midrange texture and clarity.

The original E50 remains the choice for listeners looking for exceptionally deep bass extension and the distinctive relaxed character of its paper-cone PURIFI woofer.

Neither speaker is intended to replace the other.

They are two different interpretations of the same E Series philosophy.

A resistor-free crossover

One of the most unusual technical features of the E50-S is its crossover.

The increased sensitivity of the new Satori woofer meant that the existing E50 tweeter nearly matched it without attenuation of a resistor. Instead of simply adding a resistor to the tweeter circuit, Buchardt worked with Scan-Speak to develop a modified version of the custom 28 mm textile-dome tweeter originally created specifically for the E50. The changes include a new motor structure and a newly coated diaphragm, allowing the tweeter’s sensitivity to be precisely matched to the requirements of the E50-S.

The result is a completely resistor-free crossover network.

The crossover uses premium Jantzen Audio components including Superior Z-Cap capacitors and 14 AWG copper-foil Cross Coils, mounted on high-quality PCBs with heavy copper tracks. Internal wiring includes solid-core silver-plated copper as well as Duelund Coherent Audio oil- and cotton-insulated copper cable for the tweeter.

“The easy solution would have been to simply add a resistor and call it a day. But during development we heard what happened when we removed it, and we simply couldn’t ignore the difference. So instead we went back to Scan-Speak and asked them to modify the tweeter specifically for this design. Finally tuned by ear.

The E Series also represents a slightly different engineering philosophy for Buchardt Audio.

The fundamentals of the loudspeaker are developed objectively, but the final voicing is ultimately carried out by ear.

Both E50 models intentionally incorporate a variation of the classic “BBC dip,” with the E50-S receiving a somewhat more pronounced implementation together with its lighter bass balance.

This is a deliberate departure from Buchardt designs such as the S400 series, where exceptional frequency linearity has traditionally been one of the primary engineering targets.

For the E Series, the objective was different: to create a loudspeaker with its own musical character while maintaining the low distortion, controlled directivity and engineering fundamentals expected from a modern Buchardt design.

Made in Denmark

Like the E50, the E50-S is manufactured in Buchardt Audio’s own production facilities in Denmark.

The cabinets are constructed from solid European wood rather than veneered MDF, using traditional finger-jointed construction and a substantial 28 mm solid-wood front baffle.

The custom waveguide is CNC-machined directly into the front baffle and designed specifically around the Scan-Speak tweeter and Satori woofer.

The E50-S uses two extended-stroke 6-inch passive radiators and measures 395 × 200 × 284 mm, with a weight of approximately 9 kg per speaker.

The Buchardt Audio E50-S has a price of €4,300 per pair.

A limited introductory pre-order price of €4,100 per pair is available for the first 50 orders or until September 15, 2026, with first deliveries scheduled for October 2026.

As with all Buchardt Audio products, the E50-S is sold directly to customers.
