Graham Audio have announced the worldwide release of their BBC LICENSED LS5/8 Grade One monitor speaker. Designed in conjunction with Derek Hughes and Volt loudspeakers the high resolution two way passive loudspeaker features a bespoke 12 inch bass/mid unit and legendary Audax tweeter matched to a handcrafted crossover built by Derek Hughes to exacting standards. The project was conceived to reintroduce the famous BBC design as a follow on from the Graham Audio LS5/9 monitor speaker that has received worldwide acclaim.

The design principle was to maintain the high class midrange and balance of the LS5/9 ís but with greater extension, power handling and authority. The same continuity of sound is available between the models and engineers can swap between the two different speakers with confidence during recording and mastering.

The LS5/8 was original issued as an ‘ active version’ by the BBC using an in-house modified crossover card fitted to the vintage Quad 405 amplifier which bi-amped the speaker. Derek Hughes masterful passive crossover design greatly improves on the resolution and imaging of the original speakers, the bespoke 12 inch bass unit made for Graham Audio is a custom device that perfectly matches the Audax HF unit and the tonal balance and natural sound of the speakers is greatly improved over the original design whilst still being typically British in nature and conforming to the BBC license. Each loudspeaker is a fully licensed product and a royalty is paid directly to the BBC for each speaker sold.

The new LS5/8 uses the same high quality birch ply construction and exotic real wood veneers as the LS5/9. The cabinets are dampened and upholstered, and feature the correct BBC lossy design principle.

All Graham Audio’s speakers are hand built with incredible attention to detail using superior construction techniques in their South Devon based workshop.  These British built cabinets are constructed using the very best CNC machining and use the highest quality stainless steel bolts and fixings so the speakers are field serviceable. All the veneers are carefully handpicked to be the very best that can be sourced; available in Cherry, Rosewood and Ebony finishes. Custom colours are also available to order.

All our loudspeakers come as matched pairs, before dispatch each speaker is meticulously checked, signed off, and then placed in a protective soft, monogrammed cotton bag. The speakers are then boxed and packaged safely ready for shipping. Graham Audio keeps a register of all owners and offer a 5 year warranty on every speaker.
